Looking for wine tourism plans? Discover the rich heritage of Sintra and Cascais on this day trip from Lisbon, where you'll visit a local winery and enjoy a tasting of Portuguese wines.
Day Trip Details
We'll meet at the designated time at the Rúa da Conceição, number 23-25. From this spot in the center of Lisbon, we'll set off west. Ready to discover two of the gems of Portugal?
We'll reach Sintra after a 1-hour journey, where we'll visit the gardens of the Palace of Pena. Although we won't enter this residence that once belonged to the Portuguese monarchy, we'll admire the palace's pastel colors from the outside, making this monument so iconic. Did you know this palace has been declared a World Heritage Site?
After exploring the palace's exterior, where we'll also visit the Caminho de Ronda, the stunning Triton Portico, and the area's lookouts, we'll head to the town center. Here, we'll embark on a brief guided tour of Sintra's old town, where you'll see important monuments such as the National Palace of Sintra, the Clock Tower, and the St. Martin Church.
Next, you'll have 2 hours of free time to grab a bite to eat in the center of Sintra. After lunch, we'll set off to the Regional de Colares Winery, where we'll tour this site for about 45 minutes. To end the tour in the best way, you'll enjoy a tasting of 3 Portuguese wines. Say cheers!
After this wine tasting, we'll go to the Cabo da Roca Lookout. Here, we'll stop so you can take pictures from the most western spot of mainland Europe. After admiring the views, we'll head to one of the most famous destinations on the Lisbon coast—a guided tour of Cascais awaits!
During this stroll through this popular town, you'll see its main monuments from the outside, including the Palacete Seixas and the Fortaleza de Nossa Senhora da Luz de Cascais (Fortress of Our Lady of Light in Cascais). After exploring the city, you'll have approximately 20 minutes of free time in the center of Cascais to shop and grab a drink.
Last but not least, if the weather is good, we'll visit the Boca do Inferno (Hell's Mouth). From these seaside cliffs in Cascais, we'll begin our journey back to Lisbon, where we'll drop you off at the Praça da Figueira, concluding this 9-hour day trip.
Itinerary Adjustments
In the event of recent fires in the area before the day trip, we'll take you to the Queluz National Palace instead of the Palace of Pena. If there are strikes, instead of the Palace of Pena, we'll visit the Quinta da Regaleira.
