Get behind the wheel and explore a beautiful part of Peru on our 10 Day North Peru Campervan Tour Package. If you'd rather have someone else driving, you can go for the tour with a driver and completely relax.
North Peru Campervan Tour Package: 10 Days
For 10 days, you'll have the campervan of your choice at your disposal so you can travel freely around northern Peru. Although you can follow the route of your choice, we suggest the following:
Day 1: Lima
On our first day, we'll pick you up when you arrive at the airport and take you to the hotel in Lima where you'll spend the night and receive the vehicle you'll be driving.
Day 2: Lima - Caral- Albúfera de Medio Mundo
We recommend getting up bright and early so you can make the most of your first day in the campervan. As you leave Lima and head towards North Peru, you'll arrive at Caral after 4 hours 30 minutes. Here, you'll find the remains of the capital of an ancient pre-Columbian civilization where you'll be able to take a guided tour of the archaeological site. We recommend spending the night at the Caral campsite or continuing on to Albufera de Medio Mundo and sleeping there.
Day 3: Albúfera de Medio Mundo – Chavín de Huántar
In the morning, you can visit the famous lagoon of Albúfera de Medio Mundo and admire its coastal scenery. Afterwards, we recommend a 5-hour drive to Chavín de Huántar. You can sleep at the Chacra Local de Chavín campsite.
Day 4: Chavín de Huántar - Caraz
On the fourth day, we recommend taking a guided tour of the archaeological site of Chavín to learn all about the culture of the same name. Afterwards, you could head to Yungay to visit its unique cemetery and then drive the 110 miles (175 kilometres) to Caraz to spend the night.
Day 5: Caraz - Lake Parón
After exploring Caraz, you can set off for Lake Parón, a 2-hour drive away. Here, we recommend camping in front of the breathtaking Artesonraju mountain, the snow-capped peak that inspired the iconic Paramount Pictures logo.
Day 6: Lake Parón - Huanchaco
From Lake Parón, the best thing to do in the morning is to go to Huanchaco, one of the most tourist-friendly towns in North Peru. Here, you can relax at the beach and camp at the Casa de Local campsite, located on the town's boardwalk.
Day 7: Huanchaco - Trujillo - Huanchaco
On your second day in Huanchaco, we recommend going on a tour of the Mochica culture. During your tour, you'll visit the Huacas del Sol and de la Luna, as well as the Chan Chan citadel. This fascinating example of Chimu architecture is definitely worth a visit. We also suggest eating lunch while watching a horse show, which will be an entertaining folklore experience.
Day 8: Huanchaco - Chicama
The best activity for this day would be a caballito de totora experience in the morning, during which you'll go on one of the traditional boats used by fishermen in Huanchaco. If you prefer, you could take a surfing lesson on the beach before setting off for Chicama.
Day 9: Chicama - Las Aldas
After spending the night in Chicama, you'll definitely want to take a surfing lesson at Puerto Malabrigo. The waves here are some of the highest in the world! We advise setting off in the early afternoon to reach Las Aldas while it's still daytime, as the trip takes 5 hours 30 minutes. Once you've arrived, you can rest at the campsite on La Gramita Beach.
Day 10: Las Aldas - Lima
Hasn't the time flown by! We recommend setting off from Las Aldas before midday and stopping for lunch in our favourite restaurant in Barraca, Tato. You'll then arrive in Lima after driving 230 miles (370 kilometres) and return the campervan at your hotel in the capital.
Tour with a driver
If you'd prefer not to drive and instead enjoy the landscapes of northern Peru, the tour with a driver is the best option for you. We'll pick you up at the airport to take you to the hotel in Lima and, from the second day onwards, the route you'll follow with the driver will be the one shown above.
What are the campervans like?
