Ayacucho Arts & Crafts Tour
Ayacucho Arts & Crafts Tour
At 9 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Lima and drive southbound to the Lurín Valley.
On the way, we'll pass through Pantanos de la Villa, a wetlands area home to migratory birds. We'll then arrive in Lurín, one of the districts in the province of Lima. A large proportion of the population is from the city of Ayacucho, and many arrived in the 80s after fleeing from terrorism.
Since its founding in the 16th century, Ayacucho has been characterised by its rich expressions of popular art. Due to this, Ayacucho is considered the capital of Peruvian handicrafts. These techniques have been imported to the Lurín Valley through immigrants, thus establishing a community rich in culture and tradition.
We'll visit two traditional pottery workshops, where we'll see the craftsmen working on different aspects of the clay statuettes. Next, we'll see a loom and be shown how tapestries, embroidery and belts with natural fibres are made.
Afterwards, we'll eat a typical Creole two-course lunch accompanied by a drink. You'll be able to choose between a starter or salad, potatoes or beans with corn and a main course of rice with chicken, aji de gallina (a type of chicken stew) or beans with meat.
Once we've eaten lunch, we'll return to Lima and drop you back at your hotel at 3 pm.
