Lamego Free Walking Tour
Lamego Free Walking Tour
We will meet up at the time of your choice at the entrance to the Lamego Museum where we will begin to learn about the history of this beautiful town.
First of all, we will visit Lamego cathedral, which was built at the command of the first king of Portugal. We will talk about the monarch Alfonso Enríquez while we explore the interior of this temple which dates back to 1129.
Afterward, we see the Ribeiro Conceição Theater on our way to the city's magnificent castle, declared a National Monument. We will step back in time to the wars between Muslims and Christians while contemplating the elegant facade of this iconic fortress.
The next stop is one of the most special. At the top of the Hill of San Esteban sits the enchanting sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies, an important place of pilgrimage in Portugal.
We will climb almost 700 steps that lead up to the shrine and you will be rewarded with stunning views of the area. During the ascent, we will see a lot of tiles with different decorations, obelisks, statues, and fountains. Remember to bring your camera!
Our free tour finishes at this point, two and a half hours after we set off.
