Valletta Street Food Tour
Valletta Street Food Tour
On the day of the activity, we'll meet at the Maltese Parliament and set off on a delicious street food tour around Valletta. Ready to taste the delights of Maltese cuisine?
Stepping into the island capital, we'll go through some of its main sites, like the Palace of the Grand Master or the Superior Gardens of Barrakka. Along the way, we'll stop at a few street food stalls. First up, we'll try the pastizzi—a small puff pastry usually made of ricotta or pea paste.
As we continue our route, we'll stroll along Mercaderes Street leading us to our next food stop featuring ftira, a fermented bread, usually stuffed with sardines, tuna, potatoes, tomatoes, onions, and olives. Fun fact: this Maltese bread is so historic, that it was declared a form of Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO!
During our tour, we'll marvel at other historic landmarks like St. John's Co-Cathedral, a baroque jewel that represents the legacy of the Knights of St. John in the city. We'll also pass by Republic Square and St. George's Square. Nearby, we'll stop to try gbejniet, one of the island's typical cheeses, and bigilla, the Maltese version of hummus.
Of course, no food tour would be complete without a sweet ending! To wrap up our route, we'll indulge in some traditional Maltese sweets, paired with a local soft drink, called Kinnie, and the Maltese's favorite beer.
Finally, with full bellies, we'll return to the starting point, after 3 hours of culinary exploration.
