La Spezia Food Tour
At the selected time, we'll start our food tour in Piazza Garibaldi, where our guide and expert in local cuisine will be waiting for us. Together, we'll go in search of the flavors that best represent the culinary tradition of La Spezia, which has its roots in Ligurian gastronomy but also in that of nearby Tuscany.
The route will take place in the charming historic center of La Spezia and includes five stops in different locales. We'll try it all! From tasty finger foods like farinata (thin pancakes made from chickpea flour), sgabei (bread dough fritters) and the obligatory fried anchovies and squid prepared directly by fishermen, to more substantial dishes such as pasta with walnut sauce and mesciua (a grain and legume soup).
We'll also taste a dish as typical as versatile, which changes its name according to the way it's cooked and the ingredients used. It's essentially a dough which, when boiled and accompanied by pesto, parmesan cheese and mushrooms, is called testaroli, while when it's baked and served with cold cuts and cheese, is called panigaccio.
Of course, no food tour would be complete without tasting the best artisanal gelato in town, so be sure to leave room for dessert! Then, after three and a half hours of eating our way through La Spezia, we'll say goodbye to our guide and our gastronomic experience will come to an end.
