2-Day Trip to Shincal, Campo de Piedras Pómez, & Carachi Pampa Volcano
Trip Details
Day 1: Shincal de Quimivil
We'll begin this trip by picking you up from your hotel in La Rioja and making our way to Ruta 40, which will take us to the Shincal de Quimivil Archeological Site. Ready to learn all about the Incan Empire?
We'll explore this old city while admiring its pre-Columbian buildings and we'll discuss the vanished indigenous populations and their political systems. What did their everyday life look like? How did they exercise their power? Why was the city of Shincal destroyed?
Afterwards, we'll go to London and Villa Vil to immerse ourselves in the peaceful rural life in these villages. We'll pass the Quebrada de Indalecio, ascending through the mountainous region and reaching the Cuesta de Randolfo, which is notable for its striking rock formations. Get ready to see postcard-pretty landscapes!
Lastly, after a total of 10-12 hours, our first day will come to an end at your hotel in El Peñón or Belén.
Day 2: Campo de Piedra Pómez – Carachi Pampa Volcano
Our adventure will continue after picking you up from your hotel in El Peñon or Belén and making our way to the impressive Campo de Piedra Pómez. Are you ready to experience the beautiful landscapes in Antofagasta de la Sierra?
We'll reach this protected natural area and, from the second we step foot in this location, we'll see extensive pumice stone fields and the curious rock formations that feature in this area.
Then we'll begin the search for another natural landscape that will take your breath away: Carachi Pampa Volcano. This huge volcanic cone is over 3000 metres (9842 feet) tall and looms over the Laguna Blanca with its intense black slopes. Can you imagine a more impressive view?
Lastly, we'll begin our journey back to La Rioja, where we'll drop you off around 8 pm.
