Join us to discover the fascinating landscapes in La Rioja on this trip to the Brava Lagoon. A surprising combination of reddish deserts, salty lagoons and a huge variety of native animals await you. Sounds good, right?

Options

Both include pickup and drop-off at your hotel in La Rioja, transport in a 4x4 and an English-speaking guide. The following explains what is involved in each option:

8.5 hour tour

We'll leave La Rioja and make our way to the very northern part of the province to begin our tour of Quebrada de la Troya. This spectacular gorge will be one of the most beautiful views of the tour, as well as being a location where dinosaur footprints have been found in the rock.

At the end of the Quebrada de la Troya, is Jagüé, from where we'll continue to Quebrada Santo Domingo. Here, we'll see numerous mountain refuges that were built between 1862 and 1874, after the passage of the Army of the Andes.

After discovering its fascinating history, we'll make our way to the Brava Lagoon Provincial Reserve, an incredible saltwater lake found high in the Andes, on the border with Chile. As well as the beautiful landscapes, we'll spot different species of animals that inhabit this area, such as vicuñas, guanacos, flamingos and Andean seagulls, which makes it even more special.

We'll admire the landscape from the Brava Lagoon Viewpoint and afterwards, make our way to the Gulf of Flamingos to see these wading birds up close and personal. With our cameras full of photos, we'll visit the remains of an aeroplane that had to perform an emergency landing in the lagoon in the year 1964.

Finally, we'll return to the hotels and bring our tour to an end after 8.5 hours.

10 hour tour

If you want your trip to the Brava Lagoon to be even more special, book the 10-hour tour. As well as the activities mentioned in the previous option, we'll also visit the Brava Lagoon geysers. We'll pass by these ochre-coloured mounds surrounded by salt, where we'll be greeted by the strong smell of sulfur.

Important

Please keep in mind that these 2 activities take place between altitudes of 2500 and 4500 metres (8200-14763 feet).
