Discover what life was like in Bolivia over three thousand years ago on this fascinating day trip to Tiwanaku. Our professional guide will show you around one of the most important archaeological sites in South America.
Description
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in La Paz. We'll then make our way toward the archaeological site of Tiwanaku, where you'll travel back in time to the year 1500 B.C. when the civilization considered to be the first Precolombian empire in South America once flourished.
Our first stop will be at the lithic museum of Tiwanaku, which houses some of the tools employed by the civilisation as well as works of art that were brought inside for conservation purposes.
We'll then head to the most important checkpoints in Tiwanaku, such as the pyramid of Akapana and the temple of Kalasasaya, a ceremonial enclosure that was used as a sort of calendar.
The tour will then bring us to an underground temple packed with zoomorphic and anthropomorphic symbols, and the imposing Puerta del Sol (door to the sun), a symbol of Tiwanaku civilization. During the visit, we will learn about the historical context of this culture and the influence it would have on later ones such as the Incas.
We'll then return to La Paz and drop you off after a total of 8 hours.
