Discover the main wonders of Bolivia with this excursion to Lake Titicaca and Tiwanaku from La Paz. Learn all the fascinating secrets about these places inhabited by ancient civilizations.
Lake Titicaca and Tiwanaku Trip
We'll pick you up from your hotel in La Paz and start our journey to the amazing ruins of Tiwanaku.
Once there, we'll start to tour this ancient city, composed of seven important architectural constructions: Kalasasaya, the semi-subterranean temple, the Akapana pyramid, Kantantika, Kerikala, Putuni and Puma Punku.
After a 2-hour journey, we'll come to Tiwanaku, a city of great importance for the Inca Empire, which inhabited these lands more than 2,500 years ago. We'll explore the famous ruins of this archaeological complex, gaining a deeper understanding of the symbol of Bolivia's identity.
During the tour, we'll also visit the Tiwanaku Museum and some essential sites, such as the carved stone monoliths or the famous Sun Gate, a symbol of Bolivian identity!
Following our visit, we'll then head to Huatajata, a small village along the banks of Lake Titicaca. Fun fact: this is South America's second-largest lake and the world's highest lake you can sail on.
Surrounded by this natural paradise we'll stop to enjoy lunch, featuring traditional dishes from the area. Then, refueled with a nourishing meal, we'll visit the Reed Rafts Museum where we'll get an eye-opening look into how these traditional boatcrafts are made. As if that weren't enough, we'll end the day on a high note and board a raft for a pleasant sail on the tranquil waters of Lake Titicaca.
After a full day exploring some of the wonders of Bolivia, we'll return to La Paz, arriving at your hotel about 9 hours later.
