Can you imagine surpassing 5200 meters of altitude? On this 2 or 3-day trekking expedition on Huayna Potosi, this becomes reality—an unforgettable ice climbing and hiking adventure in the stunning Andes Mountains.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1

We'll gather at Sagarnaga Street in La Paz as scheduled, and hop aboard a minibus bound for the Andes' Huayna Potosi mountain. After roughly two hours, we'll arrive at the base camp situated at Zongo Pass, perched at an altitude of 4700 meters (15,400 feet).

First, we'll recharge with a delicious lunch before doing some training for the upcoming ice climbing and trekking adventure. The lower glacier will be our classroom as we learn to navigate with crampons, wield the ice axe, and grasp essential safety protocols over the next two days.

As night falls, we'll enjoy a tasty dinner and friendly conversations, relishing the serenity of the mountainside.

Day 2

On the second day, we'll begin our Huayna Potosi circuit and we'll set off on a two to three-hour hike. Our objective is to reach a higher altitude camp situated at 5350 meters (17,550 feet) above sea level.

Throughout the trail, we'll pause periodically to catch our breath and take in the breathtaking panoramic views of the Andes Mountains and the Bolivian altiplano that the Huayna Potosi mountain generously offers us.

Upon reaching the camp, we'll unwind, enjoy a hearty dinner, and retire early to ensure we're in prime physical shape for the third and final day of our mountain adventure.

Day 3

Embarking on an early morning start, we'll set off on a unique glacier trek that takes on an otherworldly quality under the night sky, adding a touch of magic to its already impressive allure.

Following an extensive trek, we'll reach the peak of Huayna Potosi. Weather permitting, this vantage point offers a sweeping view of some of Bolivia's natural marvels, including Mount Sajama, the Cordillera Real, and the iconic Lake Titicaca.

Scaling a 30-meter ice wall, leaping over crevasses, and testing our mental resilience will be rewarded with indelible views that you'll never forget

Having rested and taken in the remarkable summit of Huayna Potosi, we'll commence our descent to the high camp. There, a sumptuous traditional meal awaits, restoring our energy. Later in the afternoon, we'll continue the descent to the base camp, where we'll board the minibus for the journey back to La Paz.

2-Day tour

If you prefer a shorter route, no problem! If you book the 2-day hike, we'll do a similar route in less time. After arriving at base camp and having lunch on the first day, we'll hike to the high camp, over 5200 meters.

On the second day, we'll hike and climb on the ice in the early morning and make the descent as described in the itinerary of day 3.
