El Choro Trail 4 Day Hike

Day 1: La Paz - La Cumbre - Challapampa

At 8:30 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel and drive to La Cumbre, which is about 45 minutes away from La Paz. From here, we'll begin a 5-hour ascent following the El Choro Trail through the Andean Mountains.

Along the way, we'll make a stop for lunch. Once we've reached the Apacheta Chucura summit, which towers at almost 16,000 feet (4,870 metres), we'll start our descent. As we make our way down the mountain, we'll pass by the Samaña Pampa and Chucura peaks until we reach Challapampa, which has an elevation of 9,560 feet (2,915 metres). When we arrive, we'll settle in and have dinner before going to sleep.

Day 2: Challapampa - Sandillani

We'll wake up to the crisp mountain air and have breakfast at 7:30 am to prepare ourselves for a day of hiking. After packing up our tents, we'll start a 7-hour hike through the most jungle-like part of the El Choro Trail, during which we'll take breaks to rest and have lunch.

Following the course of the Chucura River, we'll pass by streams, waterfalls and villages such as El Choro. This village is located at an altitude of 7,200 feet (2,200 metres) and is well-known for its suspension bridge, which looks like something out of an adventure film. Our route on day 2 will take us to Sandillani, the perfect place to set up camp again. We'll have dinner and then settle in for the night.

Day 3: Sandillani - El Chairo - Coroico

On the third day, we'll wake up bright and early to have breakfast before packing everything up and setting off again. During our hike through the mountains, we'll be plunged into a ghostly mist that'll make the peaks around us appear and disappear, creating a mysterious and unique atmosphere.

After around 3 hours of walking through the beautiful mountain scenery that connects Sandillani with El Chairo, we'll arrive at El Chairo. A vehicle will be waiting for us here, and we'll be taken to the town of Coroico. We'll visit this picturesque town, famous for its high-quality coffee, and spend the night in a hotel here.

Day 4: Coroico - La Paz

Good morning! On our final day, we'll get up and have a leisurely breakfast. The night before, we'll have agreed a time to set off on our return journey to La Paz. Following a 3 hour journey, we'll be back in the Bolivian capital.
