Oxapampa 2 Day Tour

Day 1: La Merced - Oxapampa - Pozuzo

Having picked you up from your hotel in La Merced at 8 am, we'll set off on our 2-day tour of the Oxapampa region. Our first stop will be in the town of Oxapampa, which is the capital of this district. This picturesque town is inhabited by the descendants of Austro-German settlers, so we'll see striking wooden houses and buildings designed in the Tyrolean style, such as the Church of Santa Rosa.

Afterwards, we'll travel through the valley surrounding the town and visit the Huarapo farm. This spot is an agricultural estate where sugar cane brandy is made. While we're here, we'll try some of the farm's products.

We'll continue learning about the locals' way of life by visiting a trout farm and a dairy plant. You'll then have some time to eat lunch at your leisure before we head to Pozuzo. On the way, we'll see views of some of this region's most iconic places. Among these are the Rayantambo and Yuliqunti waterfalls and the Yanachanga National Park, an important wetland area.

When we get to Pozuzo, we'll settle in and get some rest.

Day 2: Pozuzo - La Merced

The second day of our tour will begin with a delicious breakfast at our accommodation, which will set us up for an exciting day. Afterwards, we'll take a tour of the town of Pozuzo and the Church of San José, which was the first church built by settlers in this area in 1875.

In front of the church, we'll find a monument to the founder of the colony, Father Joseph Egg. We'll continue through the main square of Pozuzo and see the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Francisco Shafferer Museum. This museum houses the antique objects brought by the first European settlers.

Our next stop will be at the Emperor Wilhelm I suspension bridge, which was built in 1877. We'll see numerous buildings constructed in a European style, such as the Budweiser house, the House of Culture and the District Municipality.

Next, we'll visit Pozuzo's cemetery and take a break for lunch. We'll then return to La Merced and drop you off at your hotel between 5 and 6 pm.
