Get to know Peru's cultural and scenic diversity with this trip to Oxapampa and the Yanachaga National Park.
Oxapampa & Yanachaga National Park Trip
We'll pick you up at 8 am from your hotel in La Merced and set off on a trip to the north.
Our trip will start with a visit to Oxapampa, the capital of the province of the same name. The most interesting thing about this town is that it was founded by Austrian and German immigrants in the 19th century. Their descendants now live in this town where European and Andean cultures come together, which is why there are families with surnames like Mayer or Müller.
We'll visit the districts that makeup Oxapampa, the neighbourhood of Miraflores and Llamaquizu, while we observe the traditional houses of the Paseo de los Colonos. During the tour, we’ll pass by the church of Santa Rosa, a unique location in Peru due to its Tyrolean style building.
After this visit, our trip will continue in the Oxapampa valley whilst making a stop at the Huarapo estate. Here we’ll learn about the process of making sugar cane brandy and have the opportunity to taste this typical drink. In the same area, we’ll visit a trout farm as well as a dairy plant. This part of the tour will help us understand a little more about the livelihood of the farmers in the region.
You'll be given some free time for lunch and shortly we’ll carry on adventuring to the Yanachaga National Park, located in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. This beautiful protected area will be a great opportunity to get to know the true jungle life of central Peru.
After a full day of getting to know all aspects of life in the Oxapampa region, we’ll conclude the trip and return to La Merced. You'll arrive at your hotel at around 5 pm.
