La Merced + El Tirol Waterfall Tour
La Merced + El Tirol Waterfall Tour
At 9 am, we'll pick you up at your hotel to begin a tour of La Merced and learn about the history of the provincial capital of Chanchamayo.
Did you know that this area was inhabited by three different cultures before the arrival of the Christian missionaries? The Franciscan monk Fray Juan Jerónimo Jiménez first crossed the Huancabamba valley in 1635 to convert the indigenous peoples to Christianity.
First of all, we'll take a tour of the city passing by the square of La Merced, the first one built in this area of the central jungle of Peru. Here we'll see the church Matriz de La Merced, a beautiful colonial-style building with its reddish pilasters.
We'll continue to the Gallito de las Rocas Zoo, a place where we'll be able to observe the different species of plants, birds and native animals.
Our next stop will be the Tirol waterfall. Here we'll take a 35-minute hiking route, through the Amazon rainforest. During the tour we'll stop at the viewpoint of La Cruz to enjoy a beautiful view of the Chanchamayo River as it passes through La Merced.
After the visit, we'll return to La Merced and drop you off at your hotel after a five-hour tour.
