Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge Excursion
Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge Excursion
At 7:30 am on the morning of the tour, we'll pick you up at your hotel in La Fortuna and hit the road to the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge.
Over the course of two hours, we'll cross the San Carlos Plain towards the village of Los Chiles, originally inhabited by fishermen and rubber workers. Along the way, we'll be able to see areas full of local crops like pineapple and sugar cane, products that are especially important in the Costa Rican economy.
Once we arrive at our destination, we'll board a boat and begin a pleasant boat ride along the banks of the Frío River. Located on the border between Costa Rica and Nicaragua in the lower part of the river is the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, one of the country's most outstanding wetland areas!
Caño Negro is a protected area for endangered species - hundreds of animals survive thanks to the river. As we cruise along its banks, we'll have the opportunity to spot monkeys, sloths, iguanas, turtles and even caimans! Plus, during the months of February, March and April there are loads of migratory birds that visit this protected enclave.
After a two-hour boat ride, we'll treat ourselves to a well-deserved typical lunch before returning to La Fortuna. At the end of the excursion, we'll drop you off at your hotel, arriving around 3:30 pm.
