Płaszów Concentration Camp Guided Tour
Tour Details
We'll meet at the indicated time next to the Apteka Pod Orłem museum at Heroes' Square. From this key point of Krakow's Jewish memory, we'll begin our tour of the history of the Płaszów Concentration Camp.
First of all, we'll approach the Ghetto Memorial and the famous Eagle Pharmacy, symbols of civil resistance during the Nazi occupation. Nearby, we'll stop at Lwowska Street, where the remains of the wall that separated the Jewish ghetto from the rest of the city still stand.
Then, we'll take a tram that will take us in just two stops to the site of the Płaszów Concentration Camp. There, we'll walk along Jerozolimska Street, where the camp railway station, warehouses, the officers' clubhouse, administrative offices and barracks were located. We'll also see the ruins of the Jewish pre-burial hall, a reminder that the camp was built over former cemeteries.
We'll stop at the so-called "Grey House", known to have been used as a torture centre. Nearby, we'll pass the villa where Amon Göth, the ruthless camp commandant, whose figure was immortalised in the film Schindler's List, lived.
During the tour, we'll also visit the area of the former Jewish cemetery, the camp's roll-call square, the industrial site and two of the most impressive points of the tour: H-Hill, the site of mass executions, and C-Pit, where today stands the large Torn Hearts monument commemorating the victims of the camp.
Before returning to the centre of Kraków by bus, we'll pass the site of the second entrance gate to the camp. A last glimpse of an environment that, despite having been turned into a green area, bears lasting scars.
After 2 hours of sightseeing, we'll conclude the tour in the Kamieńskiego area, leaving behind one of the most shocking chapters of recent history.
