Free Holocaust Tour of Krakow + Ghetto
Description
Meet at Plac Bohaterów Getta as we get our free Holocaust tour of Krakow underway. This emblematic plaza will take us back to the 1940s when the Germans who controlled the area held nothing back when showing hostility towards the Jewish population. Throughout the tour, we'll learn about complex topics such as racism, grief, and acts of heroism for a deeper understanding of this historical period.
As we observe the numerous seats scattered throughout the plaza and discover their significance, we'll arrive at the remains of the Krakow Ghetto Wall. This imposing structure served as a barrier, isolating the Jewish population from the rest of the city, effectively sealing off the district from the outside world.
Walking through the ghetto streets, we'll appreciate the true spirit that still looms over this district. The remnants of which we'll see in the facades of historic hospitals, the prison, and the employment office headquarters. Here, Jewish residents were forced into labor in workshops like Optima and Madritsch to be featured stops on our tour.
Our journey will continue to reach the location of the gates that once served as entrances to the ghetto. These gates, such as the Zuker Synagogue, are a testament to the history of this area and the namesake of the ghetto government, the Judenrat.
The last stop along our route will be the famous Eagle's Pharmacy, now a modern-day museum. Here, we will delve into its storied history, concluding our tour approximately two hours later.
