Kingston Street Art Tour
Tour Details
At the appointed time, we'll meet at 107 Harbour Street, where we'll give you a brief introduction to the tour, ready to experience one of the most vibrant facets of Kingston?
Once we're ready, we'll set off for Water Lane, the district that is home to the vibrant urban arts movement in the Jamaican capital. Along the way, we'll stop in front of several murals, each with its own social, political, and cultural symbolism, which we'll discuss in detail.
We'll also tell you about the events that have inspired these paintings, the meanings, and the impact they have on the local community. In addition, we'll take the Outta Many route, which tells the story of Kingston's multi-faceted and multicultural identity.
Walking alongside the murals, we'll tell you about the influences that inspired the street artists to create each piece. We'll see scenes that depict the daily life, childhood, customs, music, and even the political activism of Jamaicans.
Finally, we'll head back to the initial meeting point, where we'll conclude this 1-hour tour.
National Gallery of Jamaica
At the time of booking, you can choose the option that includes admission to the National Gallery of Jamaica. In this case, we will follow the same route described in the previous section and, at the end of the Water Lane tour, we will go to the National Gallery of Art, located in the main port of Kingston. There, you will be given free time to explore the museum at your leisure.
You will have 45 minutes to visit its rooms, which house historical pieces and modern works of art that tell the story of Jamaica's cultural evolution. You will also find creations by the most important Jamaican and international artists.
At the end of the tour, we will meet again and return to the initial meeting point, where we will say goodbye after 1.5 hours together.
