Basket Weaving in Kigali
Woven Traditions: Basket Weaving in Kigali
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Golden Coffee Roastery cafe where we'll kick off our exciting workshop and learn how to basketweave. In the heart of the Rwandan capital, local craftswomen will welcome us and guide us in the traditional art of basket weaving. Alongside our knowledgeable and experienced teachers, we'll learn the meaning behind each design.
To get things going, we'll begin by listening in on personal stories that weave together the cultural importance of weaving in Rwanda. With materials and tools in hand guided by our teachers, we'll learn the delicate art of Rwandan basket weaving.
As your fingers shape the baskets, you'll feel the vibrant rhythm of a craft that has been passed down from generation to generation. Each color and pattern will connect you to the community and its legacy.
After 2 hours of weaving, you'll not only take a basket home with you, but also a part of the history and spirit of Rwanda.
