With this desert safari from Kerman you'll get the chance to see the famous kalouts, the natural sand castles of the Shahdad desert: the hottest desert in the world.
Shahdad Kalouts Desert Safari
Are you ready to enter one of the hottest places on the planet? We'll pick you up from your hotel in Kerman at 9 am. After an hour and a half's drive, we'll arrive at the village of Shadad, where some of the world's hottest temperatures have been recorded.
The climate is very unique in the Shahdad Desert, also known as the Lut Desert due to its famous kalouts; huge formations of rock and sand that extend across the entire terrain. We'll see these natural sculptures for ourselves onboard a camel or quad bike, whichever you prefer!
As we head across the rugged landscape we'll hear some interesting legends about the kalouts, which the local people also call yardangs or "rock and sand ghosts". We'll see them towering tall over the desert, like warriors ready for battle.
At the end of the desert safari, we'll head back to the vehicle and set off for the village of Keshit. The landscape will begin to change drastically, as we start to see palm trees, waterfalls and even a riverbed.
In Keshit you'll be able to get some lunch in one of the typical Arab food stalls with Persian influences. At 5 pm we'll make our way back to the hotels in Kerman.
Camel or Quad Bike
When you book you must choose to do the safari by camel or quad bike. To do the tour on a quad bike you must be over 18 years old and hold a valid type B driving licence.
