Meteora Monasteries at Sunset

The tour begins first thing in the morning, when a minibus picks you up at your hotel in Kastraki, and takes you to Meteora, where you'll enjoy an amazing sunset among the great stone pillars, topped by 500-year-old monasteries. 

Your English speaking guide will explain the history of the place, and why the 24 monasteries were constructed at such an altitude. Currently, thirteen are still standing, and of those, six are open to visitors.

During the excursion, you'll have the opportunity to discover some of the six monasteries that still stand today - among them the Grand Meteora Monastery, the St. Nicholas Monastery, the Monastery of the Holy Trinity, St. Stephen's Monastery, Roussanou, and Varlaam Monasteries. 

You'll enter one or two of the places of worship (which ones specifically depends on the day you choose to take the tour), and enjoy their ancient architecture bathed by the day's last rays of light. And we'll also visit the Bizantine Church of Assumption of the Virgin Mary - built in the 11th century.

The cherry on the cake comes when the sun finally falls over Meteora, a sight that will last as long in the memory as in the photos you take. Then you'll have some free time to relax with the views that, if you're a Game of Thrones fan, are sure to prove familiar as the Eagle's Nest!

Then, the minibus will take you back to your hotel, leaving behind an incredible memory of an unforgettable evening.

The Spanish tour operates only between 1st May and 31st October. The rest of the year it operates in English.
