Santo Domingo City Tour
Between 7 am and 8 am, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Juan Dolio to take you to Santo Domingo. Ready to get to know the Dominican capital?
First, we'll visit the Tres Ojos National Park to discover the secrets of its spectacular cave and a freshwater lake. Do they hide any secrets? We'll find out on the tour! Our route will continue passing by the Columbus Lighthouse, which is said to be the resting place of Christopher Columbus,
Next, we'll stop to admire the imposing exterior of the Presidential Palace. We'll observe the façade of this impressive neoclassical architectural ensemble and, from here, we'll go to a local restaurant to enjoy a delicious buffet lunch with typical dishes such as rice, meat stew and beans.
After lunch, we'll start a guided tour of the colonial area of Santo Domingo, admiring iconic buildings of the capital, such as the temple of Santa María de la Encarnación, the first cathedral, or Catedral Primada de América, a monument we'll visit to learn all its secrets.
The tour will continue through the Plaza de España, where we'll find the famous Alcázar de Colón. Inside, we'll discover its history and its wonderful landscape, before continuing along Las Damas Avenue, the first street of the New World. Walking along this avenue we'll pass in front of the National Pantheon, where the remains rest of illustrious historical figures of the Dominican Republic, as well as admire the façade of the 18th-century Church of the Jesuits.
Afterwards, we'll stroll through the lively and pedestrian streets of the Colonial area, where there are art exhibitions, various cafes and artisans. We'll visit a typical handicraft store to learn about Larimar and Amber, a semiprecious stone and resin that are highly prized in the Dominican Republic. Then, we'll give you some free time to go shopping on the commercial street of Calle El Conde or to explore and have a coffee in one of the area's squares.
We'll then regroup and head to the Malecón, the seafront promenade, to finish the tour with a beautiful view of the Caribbean Sea.
Finally, we will return to Juan Dolio, where arrival is scheduled for around 5 pm.
Temporary closures
The Alcazar de Colon will remain closed for remodelling works until further notice. During this time, we'll substitute this part of the visit with a tour of the Museum of the Royal Houses (Museo de las Casas Reales), one of the main Cultural Monuments of Dominican History.
