Higüey, Sugar Cane Plantations & Chavón River Boat Trip

After picking you up from your hotel in Juan Dolio at 9 am, we'll board the safari trucks ready to get our adrenaline pumping on a fun tour of the sugar cane plantations of the Dominican Republic.

We'll drive through the south of the island over muddy, uneven and rough terrain until we reach the sugar cane plantations that surround the Dominican village of Benérito. As well as enjoying the beautiful rural landscapes, we'll also visit the weighing station, where you'll have the opportunity to taste locally-grown sugar cane.

Afterwards, we'll head to a nearby village, or batey, to learn more about local life in the area. The tour will then continue to the city of Higüey, where you'll learn how Dominican cigars are made in an organic tobacco factory.

After strolling through the market of Higüey and discovering the incredible variety of tropical fruits on offer, we'll enter the Basilica of the Virgin of Altagracia, the most important church in the city. We'll then renew our energy with a typical Dominican lunch - delicious!

The highlight of the tour will be a boat trip on the Chavón River. On board a traditional boat, you'll get to admire the incredible natural environment and discover iguanas, exotic birds and numerous plants of all kinds. Get your camera ready!

Finally, we'll return to the safari truck to make our way back to Juan Dolio. We'll arrive at hotels at 5 pm.
