Soledad de Maciel & Xihuacan Day Trip
At 9 am we'll pick you up from your hotel in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo and head to Xihuacan, an archaeological site full of history and culture.
Once we've arrived, we'll visit the Xihuacan Museum. Here we'll see over 800 artefacts, some of which are 3,500 years old, such as necklaces, pots, axes, and a glyph bearing the name of the city. On our way out, we'll admire both a ball game made of baked clay and one of the pyramidal bases of the ceremonial centre, where agricultural and religious rituals took place.
Afterwards, we'll go to La Soledad de Maciel, a rural village built on the ruins of Xihuacan. In this spot, we'll see a low relief stele called 'King of La Chole', which is on display next to the church. We'll also be able to enter a local house to see a collection of pre-Hispanic art discovered over the course of 30 years in the village's vicinity.
We'll then head to Barra de Potosí Beach to enjoy a traditional local lunch. You'll have a choice of shrimp, fajitas, fish or meat dishes accompanied by rice, salad and handmade tortillas.
Once we've got our energy back, we'll set off on our return journey to Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, where we should arrive back at your hotel at 2:45 pm.
