Isafjordur Fjord Whale Watching
Description
Meet us at the scheduled time at Borea Adventures Gear Storage in Isafjordur. From here, we'll depart on a fully-fitted boat called Síf and make our way out onto the Isafjordur fjord.
As we sail along on the tranquil, icy waters of this fjord, we'll keep our eyes peeled for the blows of whales off in the distance. Our expert captain will then attempt to take us as close as possible to the whales without disturbing them. With the fjord being so diverse in its wildlife, we may see humpback whales and minke whales, which flash their tails above the water before diving downwards. An incredible sight! If luck is on our side, we may even spot the elusive killer whales (orcas), which sometimes pass through the area.
In addition to the whales, we might even see dolphins and porpoises. We'll also see the iconic and majestic puffin. These emblematic birds nest on the islands of Aedey and Vigur and play around in the surrounding waters. Throughout this experience, the boat's crew will share tons of curious facts about the local flora and fauna.
Apart from sightseeing, these outings are also used for research purposes, so we encourage you to take photos of the whale's flukes (tails) for identification. You'll be an expert whale scientist by the end of this tour!
After 2.5 hours on the Síf boat, we'll bring this experience on the Isafjordur fjord to an end.
