Momon or San Antonio Rivers 6 or 7-Day Cruise
Description
Day 1
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Iquitos or the airport, and afterward, we'll transfer you to the city's riverport, where our journey will begin with a boat ride along the Amazon River, the largest river in the world.
Throughout the journey, we'll be making several stops. Our first stop will take us to a natural reserve in the area, where you'll have the chance to observe Victoria Regia, the world's largest aquatic plant. Afterward, we'll continue sailing to reach an animal sanctuary, where you can see monkeys, toucans, anacondas, and other fascinating Amazonian species.
Following our visit to the animal sanctuary, we'll proceed down the Amazon River, eventually entering the Nanay and Momon Rivers. At the mouth of the Momon River, we'll reach our campsite for the night.
We'll enjoy lunch at camp before embarking on a brief hike through the Amazonian jungle to acquaint ourselves with the Boras tribe. Later in the afternoon, we'll head back for dinner before venturing into the jungle again, in search of nocturnal birds. With this final excursion, we'll conclude our first day and make our way back to camp.
Day 2
On the second day, we'll kick off early to witness some early birds in action during the sunrise. Following this, we'll head back to camp for a satisfying breakfast. Then, we'll embark on a boat ride down the Momon River, leading us to the Nanay, Amazon, and Itaya Rivers.
During our journey, we'll make a stop to get up close and personal with sequoia trees, which can tower up to impressive heights of 70 meters (229 feet) and are truly awe-inspiring. After immersing ourselves in the grandeur of these giants, we'll return to the Momon River and head back to camp, where a delicious lunch awaits. Following lunch, we'll have the opportunity to try our hand at piranha fishing in the shallows near the campsite.
We'll enjoy a delightful dinner as we wrap up Day 2 at our campsite. To cap off the evening, we'll watch a movie featuring films recorded in the Momon River region, providing a relaxing and entertaining end to the day.
Day 3
On Day 3, we'll continue our early bird watching during the sunrise, followed by a hearty breakfast at the camp. Then, we'll journey back to the Momon River, making our way toward the Padrecocha village, where we'll have the opportunity to witness the renowned butterfly.
Around noon, we'll return to camp for a satisfying lunch. Following a well-deserved break and relaxation, we'll embark on an exciting kayak tour along the Momon River.
After dinner, we'll enjoy another evening at the campsite and bring day 3 to a close.
Day 4
We'll begin the day with breakfast at the camp and then set off to navigate the Momon, Nanay, Amazon, and Itaya rivers. At the confluence of these river currents, we'll have the opportunity to spot the friendly pink dolphins. Our journey will then lead us to Belen, often called the Amazonian Venice.
Following our exploration of the canals of Belen, we'll make our way back along the Momon River to the campsite for a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, our adventure continues as we visit the native community of San Andres. This ancient Amazonian village will graciously share its customs and traditions with us, providing an enriching cultural experience.
During the late afternoon, we'll return to the lodge for dinner. Before ending the day, we'll enjoy a brief night walk around the camp to experience the Amazon's nocturnal atmosphere.
Day 5
Following breakfast at our campsite, we'll commence our journey down the Momon River toward the riverside community of San Antonio. Upon arrival, we'll embark on a short hike to explore the impressive giant trees known as renacos and lupunas.
After we visit San Antonio, we'll sail back to the lodge in time for lunch. The afternoon will be free for you to relax and explore. Later, after dinner, we'll come together for a nighttime jungle walk. Finally, we'll return to the camp to rest and prepare for the next day's adventures.
Day 6
We'll enjoy breakfast at the camp and then head to the Bellavista port, where we'll disembark for a tour of Iquitos. This excursion will include a mix of walking and minibus transportation. Our itinerary will lead us to the Plaza de Armas, where you can marvel at the Casa de Hierro. Fun fact: Did you know that Gustave Eiffel designed it?
Our tour will progress with a visit to the Amazon Museum, where you can explore its collection of 80 sculptures representing various Amazonian ethnic groups. Following this, we'll visit the Belen neighborhood to witness its renowned floating market. Our journey will then take us to Quistococha, where we'll visit the center dedicated to preserving rescued Amazonian species.
Once you've had the opportunity to observe these fascinating animals up close, we'll sit down for lunch at a restaurant in Quistococha, where you'll be treated to a dish of regional eats. Following the meal, we'll provide transportation to your hotel in Iquitos or the airport, depending on your preference. Please remember that our estimated arrival time in the city is 5 pm.
7-Day Tour
If you choose this option, we'll follow the same itinerary described in the previous section for the first three days.
On the fourth day, we'll sail along the Momon River to reach the riverside community of San Antonio. Here, we'll have the opportunity to share lunch with the tribe. In the afternoon, we'll take a guided walk through the jungle with the village members, who will introduce us to the native fauna and flora of the region. To wrap up the day's experiences, we'll return to San Antonio for a dinner hosted by the local community and spend the night in one of the village huts.
By the fifth day, we'll set out from San Antonio, accompanied by some village members, to explore the jungle and enjoy breakfast. We'll return to the community for a satisfying lunch and the chance to try river fishing. In the afternoon, we'll return to the same campsite along the banks of the Momon River, where we'll have dinner and spend the night.
In the morning on the sixth day, our plans include visiting Belen, often called the Venice of the Amazon, and the native community of San Andres.
Finally, on our last day we'll complete the tour of Iquitos and Quistococha that we previously outlined and at 5 pm we'll leave you at your hotel in Iquitos or the airport.
