Belén Neighbourhood Tour
Discover Belén
At the scheduled time, the group will meet at the Iquitos pier, as you make your way towards the area of Belén, along the banks of the Itaya river. From there you'll hop aboard a typical boat and head towards the aptly coined Amazonian Venice.
To start, you'll be taken to the Belén market, the perfect place to learn all about the food customs and the day-to-day lives of the inhabitants of this Iquitos neighbourhood. While you make your way down the river you'll see the very traditional style wooden house built on stilts above the water. They're sure to surprise you!
Moreover, you'll learn all about Belén's peculiarities that disappear under the water several times per month throughout the year due to the changing water levels of the river. You'll also discover how the locals make use of canoes and boats to get around and transport food and raw materials.
To really put the cherry on top of the experience, you can decide on the day of the tour whether or not you'd like to go to another area of the city that's famous for piranha fishing.
After 3 hours sailing on the Itaya River, you'll return to the exact point where the tour initially began.
