December to May
Day 1: Iquitos - Amazon River
We'll pick you up from Iquitos Airport or your hotel and take you to the Hilton Iquitos for a welcome lunch. Afterwards, we'll take you to the main port of Iquitos so we can set off on our cruise on the Amazon, Marañon and Ucayali Rivers.
Day 2: Amazon River - Puerto Prado - Nauta Caño
The day will start with a boat trip on the Amazon River. Afterwards, we'll return to the boat for breakfast and then watch the friendly pink dolphins.
After lunch we'll take a walk through the jungle and admire the variety of plantlife surrounding us as we head to the community of Puerto Prado. We'll learn about the customs and way of life of this Amazonian community and return to the cruise ship to enjoy dinner accompanied by live music and a nighttime excursion through the jungle of Nauta Caño.
Day 3: Japón Lagoon - Pacaya Samiria National Reserve
Our third day will begin with a boat trip on the Japón Lagoon, where we'll have a tasty picnic breakfast in the beautiful Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.
In the afternoon. we'll go on a walk along the hanging bridges of Pacaya Samiria. On the way back to the boat, we'll attend a Peruvian cocktail demonstration before having dinner.
Day 4: Marañon River - San Regis - Shiriyacu
On the fourth day, we'll reach the Marañon River, one of the main tributaries of the Amazon. The Indigenous community of San Regis resides on its banks, and their shaman will welcome us and take us to an important tree-planting ceremony. We'll also learn some of the community's ancestral traditions and techniques for spiritual healing. In addition, we'll see samples of handicrafts made by local women.
After we've had some lunch, we'll take a boat trip on the Shiriyacu stream and try piranhas fishing.
Day 5: Nauta - Ucayali River
Rise and shine! We'll get up at dawn to visit the city of Nauta, one of the most important cities in the region. When we get there, we'll take a motorbike-taxi tour of this prominent commercial location in the Amazon and visit its market.
When we return to the boat, we'll continue our journey until we reach the Ucayali River, which we'll explore with a boat trip after lunch.
Day 6: Yanallpa del Ucayali - Dorado River
To begin our day, we'll go on a boat tour of the Yanallpa del Ucayali natural area. We'll see lots of animals native to this area during our tour here. In the afternoon, we'll take a boat trip on the Dorado River and do some fishing.
Once we're back on the cruise ship, a chef will give us a cooking demonstration of Peruvian cuisine. Afterwards, we'll have dinner and then go out to see some wildlife at night.
Day 7: Yarapa River - Tahuayo River - Huasi Community
We'll have breakfast and set off in our boat to sail the waters of the Yarapa River, where we'll see pink and grey dolphins.
In the afternoon, we'll sail down the Tahuayo River in the direction of a Huasi community. After your visit, you'll have time to relax and swim in the river before returning to the boat, where you'll enjoy a beautiful sunset and a farewell dinner.
Day 8: Amazon Rescue Centre - Iquitos
On the last day, we'll disembark in Iquitos and visit the Amazon Rescue Centre, where experts and volunteers take care of animals saved from illegal trafficking, such as manatees.
Afterwards, we'll take you to Iquitos Airport or to the hotel you've booked.
June to November
If you're joining us from June to November, the itinerary will be a bit different as the water level of the rivers and lagoons is much lower.
- Days 2, 5, 7 and 8 will be the same as described above.
- Day 1: We'll set sail from the city of Nauta instead of from the main port of Iquitos. We'll take you there after lunch at the DoubleTree by Hilton Iquitos.
- Day 3: This day will begin with breakfast before setting off on a boat trip of the Yanayacu River in Pucate, where we'll do some fishing. Afterwards, we'll eat lunch on the boat and attend a talk on Amazonian philosophy.
- Day 4: We'll have a picnic breakfast on the Samiria River, where we'll also go kayaking. Next, we'll have lunch on board and visit the community of San Regis in the afternoon. The Peruvian cocktail demonstration will be held on this day before the excursion to San Regis.
- Day 6: In the morning, we'll visit the Yucuruchi area in the Ucayali River. In the afternoon, we'll go to the Bazagán Lake where you can go kayaking and swimming.
Accommodation
This trip includes 7 nights on a luxury cruise ship with full board in the suite for your chosen category.
The Zafiro cruise ship has two decks and its suites are equipped with all the necessary comforts to make your stay unforgettable: a private bathroom with a shower and amenities, comfortable beds, cotton sheets and bathrobes and air conditioning. The suites have panoramic windows from which you can take in views.
