Red Lagoon Day Trip
Red Lagoon Day Trip
At 5 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Iquique and set off for the high plateau of northern Chile.
On the way there, we'll pass through the crossroads of Huara and stop at the petroglyphs of Chillaiza. These petroglyphs date back to the period of the Inca Empire and show figures carved into the rock. Our next stop will be in the small village of Camiña, where we'll have a hearty breakfast.
We'll then leave the Tarapacá area behind and head to Chile's northernmost region, which would be Arica and Parinacota. Once we've made it up to an altitude of 12,139 feet (3,700 metres), we'll see the Red Lagoon by the Caritaya River. Do you know why the lagoon is such a unique crimson colour? Let's find out why! We'll also explore the area around the lake and learn about the legend surrounding it...
Nearby, we'll find the smaller Green and Yellow Lagoons, which are also fascinating. Their striking colours have been caused by different minerals and microalgae from the lake.
After admiring these lagoons, we'll return to Camiña to get our energy back with lunch. Our lunch will consist of three dishes that'll allow you to sample some of the local gastronomy. Once we've had lunch, we'll take you back to your hotel in Iquique and drop you off at 6 pm.
