Idanha-a-Velha Night Tour
At 9:15 pm, we'll meet at the North Gate of the wall to start a night tour of Idanha-a-Velha. During the tour, we'll discover the history and the main attractions of this Portuguese town founded by the Romans – a real journey back in time!
We'll start by telling you about the history of the wall and its importance for the town. This ancient city was founded by the Romans under the name of Igaeditanorum and the walled enclosure dates back to the 3rd and 4th centuries. You'll be amazed by its perfect state of preservation!
Then, we'll stop in front of the Templar Tower, which is spectacularly illuminated at night. We'll talk about the purpose this building served and how it sits on the foundation of an ancient Roman temple!
Afterwards, we'll head to the archaeological remains located next to the cathedral, where we'll admire the ruins of a possible episcopal residence and a baptistery. Did you know that the ruins of the possible baptistery is believed to be the oldest in the Iberian Peninsula?
After an hour and a half of discovering Idanha-a-Velha under the stars, we'll end the night tour back at the starting point.
