On this tour to the wax palm sanctuary of Toche you'll get to know one of the symbols of Colombia: the tallest palms in the world.
Toche Wax Palm Sanctuary Tour
We'll meet at 6:30 am on Carrera 6, from where we'll leave Ibagué towards the eastern slopes of the Central Cordillera of the Colombian Andes.
This is the site of the wax palm sanctuary, located between the areas of Toche and Tolima. From the bus you can also see the Cerro Machín, a stratovolcano covered with lush vegetation.
Before arriving at our destination, we'll stop in the town of Cajamarca for breakfast and a visit to the Santander Park. Here we'll stroll among its trees and palm trees, and observe the bust of Cardinal Perdomo and the statue of Pedro César García Moreno, two important local figures.
Next, we'll stop at the thermal baths of Toche, a natural paradise where we'll find ancient trees, such as the 'old man's beard' or 'San José'.
Finally, we'll arrive at the sanctuary, which houses the largest group of wax palms in the world. We'll walk through this forest of giant trees, one of the most impressive places in the country. Did you know that almost all of Colombia's wax palms are found here?
We'll learn all about the significance of these plants, which have become a symbol of the country, and their different uses while visiting the sanctuary and being in contact with nature.
Finally, we'll make our way back to Ibagué, where we'll arrive at around 6 pm.
