Honda Tour + Boat Trip
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Ibagué at 7 am, from where we'll depart to one of the most outstanding colonial towns in the centre of Colombia.
After a two and a half hour drive, we'll reach Honda, bathed by the Magdalena River. Upon arrival, we'll take a guided tour of the main points of interest in this town famous for its bridges. Did you know that there are more than 40 bridges in Honda?
We'll visit the Navarro Bridge, known for being the first iron bridge built in South America, and the Calle de las Trampas, where we'll see old colonial buildings and learn about the history of this winding avenue that was used to mislead pirates.
We'll also pass through the Plaza del Mercado, located where the old Franciscan convent of San Bartolomé used to stand and of whose structure the columns and arches are still preserved. This building is known as the Parthenon of Tolima, what do you think, does it remind you of the one in Athens?
At midday we'll stop at a local restaurant for a two-course lunch and then head to the banks of the Magdalena River, considered the main river artery of the country. Here we'll board a boat that will take us on a trip along the river.
During the navigation we'll learn about the history of the Magdalena River, whose waters were revered by the indigenous people, who called it the Rio Grande or the River of the Fish. We'll discover how the river was used by the different tribes, for example for funeral rites.
After half an hour boat ride, we'll return to the shore, where the vehicle will be waiting to take us back to Ibagué. Arrival at your hotel is scheduled for 4 pm.
