Black Pottery Workshop in La Chamba
Black Pottery Workshop in La Chamba
We'll meet at 9 am on Carrera 6 to begin this experience and explore in depth some aspects of Colombian indigenous culture.
First, we'll head towards the community of La Chamba making a stop in the municipality of El Espinal to have some breakfast. Then we'll arrive in La Chamba, known for its artisan tradition, which dates back to the area's first settlers, the Yoropogos Indians. In this town, people work with black clay to make pots, vessels, figurines, and other utensils.
At 10 am, we'll visit an artisan center where we'll learn about the processes used to elaborate black ceramic objects. We'll also discover the most popular clay figurines in the region, among which the Mohán, representing a seated man smoking tobacco, stands out.
Afterwards, you'll have the opportunity to demonstrate your pottery skills. We'll put on our aprons and you'll try your hand at modeling some black ceramic figures. You'll feel like an artisan for a day!
Once the workshop is over, we'll go to the Magdalena River, where the clay is extracted, for a walk along the banks. Afterwards, we'll go to a local farm, where we'll have a traditional lunch and you'll have the rest of the afternoon free to enjoy the swimming pool.
Finally, we'll return to Ibagué and leave you back at the meeting point at around 6 pm.
