With your ticket to the LAVA Centre, you can explore its eight interactive rooms and learn loads of fun facts about volcanoes in Iceland. It's a great thing to do in Hvolsvöllur!
Why Visit the LAVA Centre?
When you buy this ticket to the LAVA Centre, you can visit an impressive museum dedicated to Iceland's volcanoes and geological activity. Located in Hvolsvöllur, it's one of the best exhibition centres in the country!
Boasting over 8 interactive spaces, you can enjoy an immersive and educational experience about the different types of volcanoes in Iceland. Starting in the first room, there's an exhibition about 100 years of eruptions in Iceland with lights and sound effects.
The second room homes the "time wheel", which shows the history of the country's seismic activity. The third room is an eruption simulator, where the last huge earthquake in Iceland is shown with never-before-seen precision. It's truly impressive!
Then, you can advance to the fourth room, where you'll hear real sounds of the Eyjafjallajökull eruption. In the fifth, you'll find a geothermic corridor where you'll see geysers on the floor.
You can continue the visit in the lava room. On the screens, you'll see different types of eruptions and lava flows. A photo opportunity! The seventh room shows the last eruption in Iceland, the Fagradalseldar, on the Reykjanes peninsula. What was it like and what were the consequences?
Finally, you'll arrive at the last and most spectacular room in the LAVA Centre, a room that fills with a cloud of ash simulating the Eyjafjallajökull eruption in 2010. After visiting the 8 rooms, you'll come out in the hallway, where you can enter the cinema, the observation platform and the gift shop.
