Churubamba & Papahuasi Valley Excursion
Churubamba & Papahuasi Valley Excursion
We'll pick you up at 8 am from your hotel in Huánuco and along the left bank of the Huallaga River to the Papahuasi Valley, where the pre-Inca culture of the same name developed.
During the trip, we'll appreciate the beautiful landscapes of this valley of Huánuco. Our first stop will be in the town of Churubamba. Here we'll check out its district museum, which displays objects of the Papahuasi culture and other pre-Columbian civilizations, the most striking of which are the Papahuasi mummies.
We continue our tour with a visit to the Church of Santa Cruz, a 17th-century temple associated with Father Alonso de Abad, discoverer of the famous Boquerón del Padre Abad canyon. We'll learn about the history of this Franciscan monk and his connection to this temple.
Afterward, we pass by the seven colonial chapels that surround the Church of Santa Cruz in Churubamba in the valley of Papahuasi, which represent the seven falls of Christ, very significant in Huánuco's Holy Week.
Among them are the Church of San Juan Bautista in the town of Cascay, the Church of San Pedro in the town of Utao, and the Church of San Nicolás in the town of Tambogan, all dating from the 17th century and housing remains of the conquest. In San Pedro, we can also see an exhibition of traditional clothing and Quechua handicrafts.
Next, we make our way to a trout farm to learn about the work of the local trout farmers. Then, we'll go to the colonial hacienda of Quenra, where we'll learn about the lifestyle of the colonial landowners of the 1200s as we tour the estate and its farms.
Finally, we'll return to Huánuco and drop you off at your hotel at 2 pm.
