Experience the waterfalls and lagoons that form part of Peru's most breathtaking landscapes in this excursion to the Nor Yauyos-Cochas Landscape Reserve.
Description
We'll meet at the designated time in Plaza Huamanmarca in Huancayo before boarding a minibus that will take us to an area of indescribable natural beauty. The early start will definitely be worth it!
After about an hour on the road, we'll recharge our batteries by stopping for breakfast and then discover the wild beauty of The Nor Yauyos-Cochas Landscape Reserve, which covers over 200,000 hectares (49,421 acres).
Our first stop in the reserve, The Abra Negro Bueno or Negro Bueno Pass, offers a breathtaking view of the High Andean lagoons from a height of more than 4,600 metres (15,091 feet).
Our journey will continue through the picturesque Villa de Tomás, where we'll learn a few local customs. After strolling through the small village, which can be found in the centre of the reserve, we'll visit the Cañón de Uchco, where we'll admire its spectacular gorge and mind-blowing landscapes during a 10-minute walk.
We'll then arrive at Huancaya, the birthplace of the first lagoons and natural waterfalls of Nor Yayuos-Cochas. Here we'll cross the colonial bridges and viewpoints to get the best possible views of the reserve. You won't want to put your camera away! After a 25-minute walk, we'll reach The Laguna Huallhua, one of the main attractions of the excursion. If you like, you can book your own boat ride across the lagoon to the Huallhua waterfalls.
Feeling hungry? We'll return to Huancaya for an hour-long break where you're free to visit a nearby restaurant and try out some of the local cuisine. Afterwards, we'll return to Huancayo, finishing off after a total of 16 hours at the tour's original starting point.
