Tortilla-Making Class
Did you know that Tlaxcala means "place of the corn tortilla" in Quechua? This gives us a clue to the great cultural and culinary importance of corn tortillas in this Mexican state where the city of Huamantla is located, the place where we'll carry out this fun activity.
After meeting at the chosen time at the hotel Las Candelas, we'll go to a place where they'll explain the history of corn cultivation in this region, and the origin of the famous corn tortillas, a fundamental element of Mexican cuisine. We'll see up to 10 different varieties of organic corn that the locals grow and use in their recipes to make these delicious tortillas. Did you think that there was only one variety of corn on the cob? We'll prove you wrong!
Once the presentation is over, we'll conduct a workshop in which you'll be able to use the knowledge you have learned to make your own corn tortillas. Afterwards, we'll have a tasting of local corn products.
Finally, after an hour and a half of learning about this delicious and essential part of Mexican cuisine, we'll wrap up and say our goodbyes.
