On this guided tour of Horta, we'll walk through the streets and Baroque buildings of one of the three capitals of the Azores. Its historical sights and its rich heritage will definitely impress you!
Horta Guided Tour
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at Largo Dr. Manuel de Arriaga, where we'll start our guided tour of Horta, the capital of the island of Faial. Did you know that together with Angra do Heroísmo and Ponta Delgada, it is one of the capitals of the Azores archipelago?
We'll start this tour by discussing a prominent character of Horta: the Infante Dom Henrique, commonly known as the Navigator. We'll see a bust of him, located in the middle of the garden of the same name, and then we'll go to the Town Market.
After visiting this market, we'll walk through the streets of the city, among which stands out the Ribeira da Conceição, until we reach the churches of Carmen and Salvador. In these churches, we'll be able to appreciate the elements that make up the religious architecture of the Azores, characteristically Baroque.
Our next stop will be at the Prince Albert of Monaco Observatory, where we'll enjoy one of the best views of Horta. Now it's time to fill your camera! From here we'll head to Port Pim, where some museums and buildings representative of the history of the city is located.
Lastly, we'll go to see the Santa Cruz fort, which protected the southern bay from pirate attacks. Then we'll return to the meeting point, ending the tour three to four hours after the start of the activity.
