Faial Whaling Tradition Tour

At 9 am, we'll meet at Largo Dr. Manuel de Arriaga in Horta, where we'll hop on a bus to depart from the capital of the island of Faial and head to the coast

On this tour, we'll learn about the whaling tradition of this island, the fifth largest of the Azores archipelago. We'll visit the main lookout points of the coast, which were used to watch whales and other species such as dolphins, going along the south coast up to the Capelhinos volcano.

Some of these places, from where we'll also be able to admire breathtaking views, will be the Lajinha, the Morro de Castelo Branco, and Varadouro viewpoints. We'll then take a break for a picnic lunch, and in the afternoon we'll visit old whaling ship docking points.

During this tour, we'll sightsee harbors, lighthouses, and other places that are fundamental for sailing. And, to round off the tour, we'll visit the Whale Museum, where we'll see skeletons of these huge mammals and other objects related to whaling tradition.

Finally, we'll return to the starting point between 4 and 5 pm.
