Hike Up the Hornopirén Volcano
Hike Up the Hornopirén Volcano
After picking you up at 7:30 am at your hotel in Hornopirén, we'll set off towards the Hornopirén volcano trailhead, located 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) away from the town.
Once equipped with the poles and the rest of the material, we'll start the ascent to the Hornopirén volcano. The trekking route will take us about 6 hours. It's approximately 9.5 kilometers (5.9 miles) long and has a medium-high level of difficulty. However, we'll make several stops to calmly enjoy the breathtaking landscapes of Chilean Patagonia.
During the hike, we'll cross lush forests of alerce trees, very characteristic of the Andean countryside. Little by little, we'll continue the route uphill until we reach an altitude of 1500 meters (4,920 feet), only 72 meters (230 feet) from the summit of the Hornopirén volcano.
The effort will be worth it when we take in the amazing views of the Calbuco and Osorno volcanoes in the distance, as well as the famous southern fjords. We'll also take advantage of the uphill hike to learn plenty of fascinating fun facts about the Hornopirén peak. This Andean stratovolcano, which belongs to the great Liquiñe-Ofqui fault, literally means "snow oven".
We'll take a break at the top of the volcano to replenish our energy with a snack bar, a piece of fruit, and a hydrating sports drink. After this snack, we'll start the descent back down to the trailhead and from there we'll head back to your hotel in Hornopirén, where we'll arrive at 3:30 pm.
