Ho Chi Minh City Food Tour Itinerary
At the time chosen, your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. From then you'll climb on board a motorbike and your guide will take you around the lively city in search of the best food trucks, stalls and shops.
Depending on if you wish to go on this food tour in the morning, at lunchtime or at night, the routes are slightly different.
Morning and Lunchtime Food Tour
We'll start the tour with a typical Vietnamese dish; broken rice. This dish has a variety of ingredients such as barbecue pork, broken rice, vegetables, pickled carrots and fish sauce.
Next, we'll continue through the old quarter of the city, where we'll be able to see the buildings built during the US occupation, before heading towards our next stop where you can try a delicious cup of local coffee. As you enjoy the drink, your guide will tell you all about how it is prepared and its qualities.
After your caffeine fix, we'll make our way to the Flower Market, this is the biggest in the country and here you'll be able to take photos and learn about Vietnamese flower-buying traditions.
After visiting the market, we'll head to Chinatown to discover all about China's influence on Vietnam. We'll explore the neighbourhood, visiting the Chinese Lantern Market and the Chinese Medicine Market and we'll stop at the oldest, most beautiful Chinese temple in the country to learn more about Chinese cultures in Vietnam.
After visiting the temple, we'll make our next food stop. Did you know that Vietnam was controlled by France for many years, and the heritage and influence of French Indochina is evident in the cuisine of the Southeast Asian country? Crepes may not seem very traditional in this part of the world, but you'll soon see how Vietnam has made them its own as you taste them on the first stop on your tour. The crepes of Ho Chi Minh City - or Saigon, as it was formerly known - are filled with Asian vegetables, meats and seafood - truly delicious!
With our energy replenished, we'll visit the floating market and discover how locals do business there. You'll also be able to enjoy fresh coconut water, drank directly from the fruit. Then we'll ride through the old mafia area, and your guide will tell you stories about the country's mafia past.
For the finishing touch on your food tour, you'll enjoy a traditional Vietnamese beef noodle soup. Full and happy, you'll be dropped back off at your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City.
Nighttime Food Tour
If you decide to take the tour at night, the route will be similar to the morning option, but with a few changes to make it more suitable to the time of day.
The tour will begin the same as the morning tour, enjoying broken rice and then going to the old city of Ho Chi Minh. At this time of the day, we'll skip the coffee and head straight to the Flower Market, where you can enjoy the range and beauty of the flowers.
Afterwards, we'll ride through the mafia territory and then try the delicious Vietnamese crepes. Then the tour changes more drastically, and our next stop will be to try a banh mi: the Vietnamese baguette sold on almost every street corner. In contrast with their European counterparts, these sandwiches are full of exotic flavours: they may be different, but they're equally tasty.
We hope you're still hungry! Because our last stop will be to try BBQ fish and seafood, which you'll be able to wash down with a Vietnamese beer - cheers! After this final stop, we'll drop you back at your hotel.
