La Pintada Archeological Site Hiking Tour
La Pintada Archeological Site Hiking Tour
At the indicated, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Hermosillo. From there, we'll hit the road for the archaeological site of La Pintada, where we'll take you on a captivating hiking route.
After arriving about an hour later we'll embark on a hike, between 2.5 and 3.7 miles (4 and 6 kilometres) long, to explore this exceptional site. Nestled in a desert plain right in the heart of Sonora, La Pintada exhibits vestiges of ancient times dating from 700 AD to 1500 AD.
Inside the different caves, you'll be able to see the countless cave paintings, a collection of more than 2,000 works that reflect how different ethnic groups viewed their surroundings. We'll also tell you all about the sacred rituals that were performed in these places and how the caves sheltered the Seri and Yaqui indigenous peoples when the Spanish colonists arrived.
As we explore this archaeological site, we'll come across various plant species such as the ocotillo, palo fierro (ironwood), mesquite and gobernadora (greasewood). Then, once we've completed our hiking route through La Pintada, we'll refuel with a delicious lunch with grilled meat.
Afterward, we'll make our way back to Hermosillo, arriving about 10 hours later.
