Rethymno & Arkadi Monastery Day Trip
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet in front of the Heraklion Archaeological Museum. From there, we'll start this exciting day trip to Rethymno and the Arkadi Monastery. Are you ready to get to know one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Greece?
First, we'll stop in Margarites, a small village known for its pottery tradition. There, we'll take a short walk through its picturesque alleys to appreciate its unique architecture, which we're sure will impress you!
Afterwards, we'll head to the Arkadi Monastery, one of the most historic monasteries in Crete. This spectacular Venetian building, in Romanesque and Baroque style, represents a symbol of freedom for the Cretans due to its fundamental role during the Ottoman period. There, we'll tell you all about this period of history!
We'll continue our tour in Rethymno, considered one of the most beautiful cities on the island. We'll walk through the old town until we reach the Fortress, which is built on the top of the Paleokastro hill. This large structure is visible from any point of the town and offers an unbeatable panoramic view of Rethymno.
After this journey into the past, we'll make our way back along the northern side of the island by the Cretan Sea and pass the beautiful coastal villages of Bali, Fodele and Agia Pelagia.
Finally, we'll say goodbye at the starting point 9.5 hours after the start of the activity.
