After meeting at the Capsis Astoria Heraklion Hotel at the designated time, we'll begin our journey by visiting some of Crete's most celebrated sites, starting with Gortyna, Phaistos and Zaros! During the tour, we'll get a chance to delve deeper into the history of the ancient Minoan civilisation while exploring important landmarks on the beautiful island of Crete.
Firstly, we'll head to Gortyna, the Roman capital of Crete, first inhabited around 3200 BC. We'll explore its impressive ruins and learn more about the history of this fascinating place.
Afterwards, we'll drive through The Mesara Plain until we reach the archaeological site of Phaistos and its palace, which is considered the heart of the Minoan civilisation and is located in what was once the richest and most powerful city in the south of Crete.
From Festo, we'll make our way towards Matala Beach, where you'll have around 2 hours of free time to take a dip and grab some lunch at one of the seaside restaurants.
We'll then reach Zaros, a town renowned for its spring water, which is now bottled and sold all over Greece. This place is an ideal place for nature lovers who want to make the most of their magnificent surroundings. The views of the lake will take your breath away!
Finally, the excursion will come to a close at our original meeting point 10 hours after the start of the tour.
