Visit the most important wetland in the Caribbean Islands on our day trip to the Ciénaga de Zapata National Park. If you love nature, this is the perfect activity for you!
Ciénaga de Zapata National Park Day Trip
Having picked you up from your hotel in Havana at the scheduled time, we'll set off on our day trip to the Ciénaga de Zapata National Park.
Our 2-hour road trip will take us into the largest wetland in the insular Caribbean. When we get to this UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, we'll set off on a 1.5-mile (2.5-kilometre) hike. This place is home to unique fauna and flora and is one of the main freshwater reserves in Cuba.
We'll take a look at the mangroves in this area, which play an essential role in protecting the coastline and are home to 258 species of birds, 43 types of reptiles and 15 mammals. Among this large number of animals are 5 endemic species and 16 in danger of extinction, which we'll learn all about.
This area is also ideal for birdwatching. If we're lucky we'll spot birds such as Zapata wrens, Santo Tomás hens, Cuban emeralds, hummingbirds, long-tailed hawks, Cuban parakeets, marsh spindalises, herons, flamingos and cranes.
Fancy a dip? We'll stop for a swim in the Cenotes de Cristal on the Zapata peninsula and then have a typical Cuban lunch.
Our day trip to the Ciénaga de Zapata National Park will come to an end as we drop you off at your hotel in Havana after 11 hours of fun. See you next time!
