Historic Hanover Guided Tour

At the indicated time, we’ll meet at Ernst-August-Platz 8, right in the heart of Hanover, to embark on a captivating walking tour of this historic city.

As we explore, we'll feel as if we're stepping back in time, passing sites still marked by the devastation of World War II. Did you know that by the war’s end, an astonishing 90% of Hanover’s city centre had been destroyed?

Our first stop will be the Leineschloss, a magnificent former residence of kings and dukes, now home to the Lower Saxony state parliament. Built in 1637, this castle has seen countless renovations, extensions, and transformations—we'll hear about its history as we admire its impressive exterior.

As we continue through Hanover’s charming Old Town, we’ll take in the city’s iconic half-timbered medieval houses and discover hidden corners where cosy pubs and quaint cafés await.

Next on our journey is the New Town Hall, an architectural marvel with its grand, castle-like design by Herman Eggert and Gustav Halmhuber. After a whopping 12 years of construction, it was finally completed in 1913, and its imposing structure is sure to leave you in awe.

Afterwards, we’ll visit the Hanover Opera House, a stunning venue with seating for 1,202. Originally built in 1852, the Opera House was heavily damaged in World War II. As we'll see, has been beautifully restored—its classical façade is truly breathtaking.

Finally, after a total of 2 hours, we'll bring the tour to an end back at the starting point.
