Leifeng Pagoda & Silk Museum Tour
After picking you up from your hotel at the indicated time, we'll begin our guided tour of some of Hangzhou's most important places of interest. Following the Legend of the White Snake, one of the best-known stories in Chinese culture, we'll head to the Leifeng Pagoda, located on Sunset Hill just south of the West Lake. We'll spend an hour and a half uncovering the mysterious stories that surround this eight-sided five-storey temple, which was originally built in 975 AD.
After exploring the pagoda, we'll head onwards to the National China Silk Museum, where we'll have the opportunity to learn how silk has been produced in the country for over 5000 years. What's more, we'll discover the importance of the trade route known as the Silk Road in Chinese history.
At around midday we'll stop for a well-earned break to enjoy a delicious lunch of typical Hangzhou delicacies in a local restaurant (not included).
With renewed energy, we'll continue our tour to the former residence of Hu Xueyan, an enormous complex where we'll bear witness to the luxurious way of life enjoyed by the wealthy at the end of the Qing Dynasty. Learn about Chinese architecture and admire the Zhiyuan Garden, home to the largest man-made cave in China.
Our next stop will be on Qinghefang Street, the city's most historic shopping street, where we'll spend an hour exploring. Stroll past its centuries-old shops and take the opportunity to buy some typical snacks, or choose to enter the Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine to learn about traditional herbal-based treatments.
8 hours after pickup, we'll drop you off back at your hotel.
