Tour Details
At the time indicated, we'll start this guided tour of Guimarães outside the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza.
From here, we'll walk towards Guimarães Castle, the perfect place to begin immersing ourselves in the city's medieval past. We'll tell you about its founding in the 10th century and how it has served as the backdrop to key historical events in the creation of the Portuguese kingdom. We'll pass by its walls and reach its highest spot, where we'll have incredible views.
After exploring the castle, we'll head back to the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza, a building that exudes grandeur and elegance, where the powerful House of Braganza used to live. What role did this family play in the history of Guimarães and Portugal? We'll tell you all about it while we explore the castle's rooms that house original furniture and beautiful tapestries.
Next, we'll walk around the historical centre, wandering down its narrow streets that wind between squares, traditional little houses, and cafés. From here, we'll visit a winery in the centre, where we'll enjoy a tasting of Portugal's Vinho Verde wine.
After this tasting, we'll head to the Largo República de Brasil, where this tour will come to an end after a total of 3.5 hours.
