Join us on our day trip to Cuenca and explore the beauty of a city known as the Athens of Ecuador. We'll set off from Guayaquil and spend the day touring this World Heritage City.
Cuenca Day Trip
Having picked you up at 6 am from your hotel in Guayaquil, we'll head to the city of Cuenca. When we get there, we'll set off on a guided tour to discover its main sights.
To begin, we'll stroll through the colonial-era neighbourhood of San Sebastian and visit the Municipal Museum of Modern Art to admire engravings, paintings, sculptures and spectacular contemporary works of art.
We'll then walk through the Plazuela de las Flores and Abdón Calderón Squares, which are surrounded by the old cathedral and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The latter is an imposing neo-Gothic building that took a staggering 100 years to build, with domes that are said to have been inspired by St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.
Afterwards, we'll enter a toquilla straw hat factory to see how this iconic symbol of Ecuador is made and discover why it is an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. On our way out, we'll head to the area of El Barranco and admire views of the city from the Turi viewpoint.
Feeling peckish? We'll have a lunch that'll include a main course and a drink. Once you've had something to eat, we'll take a guided tour of the La Paz craft brewery to discover how the beer is brewed and learn about the German Purity Law of 1516. We'll then taste some frothy beers from a cask and bottles.
Finally, we'll return to Guayaquil and drop you off at your hotel at 4 pm.
